WHEN INSIGHT ISN’T ENOUGH
You understand your patterns. You can name what triggers you and why. You've probably explained your own psychology to more than one professional. And in the moments that matter, your body still does the thing.
The pattern isn't stored where your insight is. It's held deeper, in beliefs your nervous system learned before you had language for them. Understanding uses your thinking brain, and the belief isn't kept there.
HOW THE WORK IS BUILT
Three elements, each doing something the other two can't.
A belief can change in a single session. A nervous system that has been braced for fifteen years cannot. Rapid and lasting are two different problems, and they need different work.
ELEMENT ONE
Neuro-education
Understanding what your nervous system is actually doing, and why it made sense. Your assessment results read back in plain language, the autonomic states, and how to recognise which one you're in. This is what stops you reading your own symptoms as personal failure.
ELEMENT TWO
Regulation practices
Tools matched to your pattern, not generic calming. This builds the capacity to stay present, which decides how far the hypnotherapy can reach and whether the change survives contact with a hard week afterwards.
ELEMENT THREE
RTT® hypnotherapy
Where the rapid change happens. We find where the belief formed, understand what it was protecting you from, and update it. A full session, your personalised recording within 24 hours, then 21+ days of daily listening to build the new pathway.
Whether the pattern shows up as anxiety, stress, burnout, or low self-confidence, the three elements work the same way. Understand the system, build the capacity, change the belief underneath.
ONE PACKAGE, FOUR PATHS
The same complaint arrives in opposite states
Two people can both call it anxiety and need opposite work. One needs settling, the other needs activating, and handing them the same breathing exercise is why generic regulation advice fails so often. Your pattern is named early and it shapes everything we cover after.
BRACED
A constant hum of tension
You over-prepare and over-function. You rehearse conversations in the car. You wake between two and four in the morning. The tension in your jaw and shoulders has been there so long you read it as normal, and rest feels like something to be earned.
What it needs first: Active down-regulation. Not stillness, which this pattern quietly rejects.
SURGING
Waves that arrive from nowhere
Discrete episodes rather than a constant hum. Heart racing, breath shortening, the sense of losing control. Then the recovery, and the watchfulness for the next one. Ordinary bodily sensations start to read as warnings.
What it needs first: Mechanism and containment first. Understanding that the sensation is a false alarm rather than a danger signal, before anything else can land.
FLATTENED
Numb, foggy, going through the motions
Not at war with your body so much as disconnected from it. Rest happens but doesn't restore. You've probably tried meditation or breathwork and found it made things worse, which tells us something useful rather than something wrong.
What it needs first: Up-regulation. Orienting to your environment, movement, light and connection. Explicitly not calming.
SWINGING
Wired at 2am, wiped out by 10am
You oscillate between hyperarousal and shutdown, sometimes within the same day. You push hard, then hit a wall. You never quite know which version of yourself you'll wake up as, and you've tried plenty of techniques that didn't work.
What it needs first: State identification before any practice at all. The tools weren't wrong, they were being applied in the wrong state.
THE MECHANISM
Your window of tolerance
Your nervous system has a sweet spot: a range where you can handle stress, feel emotions, and think clearly without being overwhelmed or shutting down. Push outside it and you tip into hyperarousal (wired, racing, reactive) or hypoarousal (numb, shut down, exhausted). Outside the window, your thinking brain goes offline.
For most people running on chronic stress, the window has narrowed over years. It doesn't take much to push you out of it anymore. A single critical email, one difficult conversation.
Widening that window is what the regulation work is for. Not so you can avoid stress, but so you have the capacity to stay present while we work on the belief underneath, and afterwards when life tests it.
WHAT HAPPENS
How the package runs
One-to-one, online via Zoom. Spaced so there's time to practise between our conversations, and structured so the work continues after the RTT® session rather than stopping there.
The initial consultation
Thirty minutes to talk through what's happening, what you've already tried, and whether this is the right piece of work. If it isn't right, I'll tell you and point you towards what is.
Assessment before we start
Validated questionnaires completed before our first conversation, covering stress, mood, anxiety and body awareness. This gives us a baseline to measure against later, and it means our first session is spent on your results rather than on forms.
Understand your pattern
Your assessment read back in plain language. How your nervous system is working, which pattern it's running, and why it made sense. Your first regulation practice established and practised live, not just described.
Build the toolkit
Practices matched to your pattern, expanded and adjusted based on what worked and what didn't. Then preparation for the RTT® session: what to expect, how hypnosis actually works, and groundwork on the belief we'll be working with.
The RTT® session
A full RTT® hypnotherapy session. We find where the belief formed, understand what it was protecting you from, and update it. Your personalised recording is delivered within 24 hours, to listen to daily for 21+ days.
Check-in, then close and re-assess
A check-in partway through the recording period, while it's doing its work. Then a final session once it's complete: your assessments re-run against your baseline so you can see what changed.
WHAT CHANGES
What changes when you build regulation capacity
You start to feel safe in your body
Signals that used to feel threatening become information you can respond to. You can sense hunger, exhaustion and stress, and meet those signals instead of overriding them.
You show up as yourself in relationships
You stop people-pleasing and freezing. You set boundaries without shutting down. You're not scanning for threat in conversations that aren't threatening.
You respond instead of reacting
A piece of feedback no longer sends you spiralling for days. You feel difficult emotions without being taken over by them. You respond from choice, not autopilot.
You can access energy or calm
Depending on what you need. You're not stuck wired or stuck numb. You move between activation and rest, and rest actually restores you.

Why it's sold as one package
Because selling the RTT® session on its own would mean selling you the part most likely to fade. The neuro-education, the regulation practices, the check-in and the re-measure aren't extras bolted onto a hypnotherapy session. They're what turns a powerful session into sustainable, lasting change.
Your change is measured, not assumed
Validated assessments before you start and again at the end, so you see the movement against your own baseline rather than taking my word for it.
You’re supported with the recording
There's a check-in partway through the twenty-one days, because that's the main thing that decides whether the change holds.
Scope and fit. This is nervous system education and RTT® hypnotherapy, not medical or psychiatric treatment. It isn't suitable during active psychosis, significant dissociation, or acute mental health crisis. If you're experiencing suicidal thoughts, active self-harm urges or a psychiatric emergency, please contact your GP, the Mental Health Crisis Line on 0800 611 116, or Emergency Services on 111. If you're already working with a therapist or psychiatrist, this can sit alongside that, and I'll coordinate where it helps.
WHO YOU’LL BE WORKING WITH
Genevieve Gray, BHSc, C.Hyp, RTTP
RTT® PRACTITIONER · CERTIFIED HYPNOTHERAPIST · PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Before this work I spent more than fifteen years as a physiotherapist, much of it in respiratory and neurological rehabilitation, alongside a decade in corporate leadership and long-term caregiving for a disabled partner. It was in the clinical work that I first saw how much the nervous system sits underneath everything else.
I've also been through my own period of panic, burnout and perfectionism. So when someone tells me that understanding it hasn't been enough, I know that from both sides.
IN THEIR WORDS
What clients say
"What stood out most was how safe and grounded she made the space feel. Her questions helped me connect patterns I hadn't fully understood before, especially what I'd internalised from my parents and how it was still shaping my reactions. Something shifted in how I see things now, and the recording has been a big part of reinforcing that."
— J, Canada
"From the very beginning her professionalism was clear, and she created such a warm, welcoming space. I came away feeling clear. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking lasting change."
— V, former client
"A gentle, patient and knowledgeable hypnotherapist. Genevieve puts you at ease right away. Her calming presence and patient guidance helped me overcome my fears."
— Lorraine, Wellington
FIT
Is this work right for you?
It’s a good fit if:
✓ You understand your patterns but can't shift them
✓ You swing between wired and wiped out
✓ You feel disconnected from your body, or like it's working against you
✓ You're ready to do the work between sessions
✓ You want the root addressed, not just the symptoms
✓ You value evidence-informed approaches
It probably isn't the right fit if:
- You're looking for a quick fix
- You're not ready for subconscious work (RTT® requires openness to the process)
- You want something passive (this requires practice between sessions)
- You're currently in significant mental health distress
- You're unwilling to work with other healthcare providers alongside this programme
Questions people ask
-
Therapy helps you understand your patterns. This changes them. Most people I work with can already articulate exactly why they react the way they do, and their body still takes over in meetings, still won't let them sleep. That's because the pattern isn't held where insight reaches. We find the belief keeping your nervous system stuck and change it using RTT®, then give you the regulation practices to work with how it shows up in your body.
-
No. If meditation made you feel worse, that's a sign your nervous system was in shutdown and needed activation, not more stillness. When you're already exhausted, disconnected and foggy, calming techniques tend to drop you deeper in. Here you learn to read what state your system is actually in and match the right practice to it.
-
If you're holding your life together and your body feels like it's working against you, swinging between wired and wiped out, unable to access what you know in the moments that matter, this is built for that. It's for chronic nervous system dysregulation, not acute crisis. If you can hold your life together but it's costing you everything to do it, you're in the right place.
-
60-90 minute One-to-one sessions spaced so there's room to practise in between, plus ten to fifteen minutes a day for your regulation practice and, after the RTT® session, your recording. Most people find they gain time back, because they're no longer losing hours to shutdown, decision paralysis, or overriding their own system.
-
Nervous system change is gradual. Some people notice shifts early: better sleep, clearer thinking, less reactivity. The RTT® session tends to create a bigger shift because we're addressing the subconscious pattern directly. Your assessments are re-run at the end against your baseline, so you see what actually moved rather than relying on how you feel that week.
-
No. This is a coaching and education package alongside RTT® hypnotherapy, not ACC-claimable treatment. ACC covers registered treatment providers for injury-related claims only.
-
Yes. Everything is delivered online via Zoom, so you can be anywhere in New Zealand or Australia. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection.
-
This isn't designed for acute mental health crises. If you're experiencing suicidal thoughts, active self-harm urges, or a psychiatric emergency, please contact your GP, the Mental Health Crisis Line (0800 611 116), or Emergency Services (111). This work requires enough stability to engage with the material.
